  • How is Tatung different from other cookers?
Tatung cooker utilizes the principle of indirect heat, whereby the steam produced is utilized to cook the food, ensuring the preservation of nutrients and vitamins. The cooker is multifunctional and is able to steam, stew and braise. The cooker is also simple and easy to use, with only the on/off button and the middle switch, making it easy and convenient for people of all ages to cook delicious and healthy meals.

For the Tatung cookers that are sold in Singapore, it is calibrated to be compatible with Singapore's plug and supply voltage ( 230V at 50Hz ). It is Safety Mark approved, ensuring peace of mind for usage in Singapore.
  • What comes with my Tatung cooker?
Every Tatung cooker comes with an inner pot and steam plate. Both are made from SUS 304 stainless steel, which is resistant to corrosion and oxidization from various ingredients and food utilized during the cooking process. A measuring cup (180ml) and spatula is also included.
  • What is the difference between the classic and premium cookers?
The outer pot of the classic cooker is made from aluminum, whereas the outer pot of the premium cooker is made from stainless steel.
  • Can I cook my food directly on the Outer pot without using the Inner Pot?
The cooking of the food should ONLY be done on the Inner pot, as the Tatung cooker utilizes the principle of indirect heat, whereby the steam produced from evaporating water from the outer pot is utilized to cook the food in the inner pot. Do NOT cook food directly in the outer pot. This may lead to permanent damage to the cooker, which is not covered under the warranty due to improper use of the cooker.
  • What is the inner pot made from?
For both the classic and premium cookers, the inner pot where the food is cooked in is made from stainless steel that is resistant to corrosion and oxidization.
  • Does the inner pot have any coatings/linings?
For the inner pots for all Tatung cookers, there are no lining or coatings present. The inner pots which cook the food are made from 100% SUS 304 Stainless Steel, which is food grade and is resistant to corrosion and oxidization, ensuring that the metal does not leach out or interact with the food during the cooking process. Hence you can be sure that you and your family will not be ingesting any artificial coatings that may peel off/leach off as compared to the inner pots from other cookers.
  • Will rice stick to the bottom of the inner pot during the cooking process?
As the Tatung cooker uses the principle of indirect heat to cook, the steam that is evaporated will be the main medium that cooks the food evenly all around the pot as opposed to direct heat in other electric cookers. This means that the maximum temperature that the food will be exposed to is 105 degrees Celsius, which greatly reduces the instances of rice sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  • How do i set a timer to cook with my Tatung cooker?
The Tatung cooker is calibrated in a way that once all the water in the outer pot has been evaporated, the cooker will switch from its "cook" function to "warm". Hence it utilizes the amount of water poured into the outer pot to set it's cooking time. A full cup of water (Tatung's measuring cup/180ml) will take approximately 25 minutes to be fully evaporated.
  • What is the maximum internal temperature of the cooker?
As the Tatung Cooker's utilizes steam rather than direct heat to cook, the maximum internal temperature is about 105 degrees Celsius. After the water in the outer pot has evaporated, the cooker will switch from "Cook" to "Warm", where a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius will be maintained.
  • I just purchased my Tatung cooker, what should I do next?
Preparing your Tatung Cooker for first time use: Unpack and remove all accessories from the cooker. Cover the pot and press the cook button until the switch leaps up automatically (approx. 5-7 minutes). It is normal to have a little smoke emitting from the switch button which is due to the lubricant inside the switch during initial heating. After using the cooker for one to two times, the smoke will disappear. Unplug the power cable and allow the cooker to cool down. For the inner pot and other accessories, you can wash it with a mild detergent using a soft sponge. Take note not to scrub the pot with abrasive sponges (steel wool, etc). For the outer pot (cooker), use a damp cloth and wipe down the surface. IMPORTANT NOTE: Do NOT immerse the cooker, the cord or plug in water. Do NOT use baking soda to clean the Aluminum Outer Pot models to prevent discoloration.
  • How do I maintain my Tatung Cooker?
After each use, allow the cooker to cool and unplug before cleaning. Cooker Body (Outer Pot) : To prevent stains/residue from building up, wipe down with a damp cloth after every use. Do not soak or immerse the whole pot in water or other liquid. Lightly wash the inside with clean water and dry it with a cloth. If the inside of the Outer Pot is stained or calcified after using for some time, you may use the citric acid to clean it. Please refer to the instruction as to how to use the Citric Acid. Inner Pot / Pot Cover : Wash with mild detergent with a soft sponge or cloth. Important Note: Do not use harsh chemicals like benzene or thinner. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or metallic brushes, or sharp objects to avoid damaging the metal surface.
  • Why are stains appearing on the outer pot of my Tatung cooker?
After cooking, it is normal for water stains to appear on the surface of the outer pot. This is due to water containing minerals and organic compounds that interact with heat, oxygen or carbon dioxide. This is a natural process that occurs as the water is heated and evaporated. To prevent the residue from building up, wipe down the inner of the outer pot with a dry cloth once you have finished cooking. For moderate to heavy stains/residue, we recommend the following steps to clean the cooker. Fill the outer pot up to 2/3 of its maximum capacity, then add 30g of Citric acid or a few lemon/lime slices. Turn on the cooker and press down the middle switch, put the lid on and set a timer for 40 minutes. After 40 minutes has passed, turn off the cooker and unplug the power cable. Let the liquid in the outer pot sit for an hour, then pour away the water and use a soft damp cloth to wipe the inner pot. Repeat if necessary. Do not use abrasive cleaners or sponges (steel wool, Etc.) to scrub the inner and outer pots, doing so may cause permanent damage to the pots.
